A spin-off series out of Matt Reeves’ The Batman focused on Colin Farrell’s Penguin is in the works for HBO Max.

The Batman is still a few months away, but it has been known that Warner Bros. was already developing at least one spin-off series for HBO Max that will follow Gotham PD before the film’s events. The Gotham PD series is currently being developed by The Batman director Matt Reeves and Joe Barton, who took over head writer duties from Terrence Winter.

According to several reports, Warner Bros. is also developing a spin-off series that will center on Colin Farrell’s Penguin as part of their “new interconnected Batman universe across all of its platforms.” Deadline describes the planned HBO Max series as “Scarface-like,” exploring the rise of the infamous Batman villain in Gotham City.

Variety reports Colin Farrell has been approached to reprise his role as Penguin for the upcoming series, and Lauren LeFranc is set to write the script. Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark will executive produce the series under the 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners.

The plot of The Batman is being kept under lock and key, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the upcoming spin-offs, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
